I debate about putting this posting up for fear of getting turned in for child abuse! Preslyn had her 4-month check-up on Friday. The doctor was concerned because she had only gained an ounce during the past month and didn't even weigh 12 pounds. I told him that she nurses for about 30 minutes 5X a day and that she sleeps through the night. He encouraged me to nurse her and then follow up with a bottle after just to see if she would drink any more. Well, I went home and did just that. After breast feeding her for 30 minutes, Preslyn consistently took a 4- to 6-ounce bottle right after! I have been starving my poor child! She has always LOVED to eat her hands and baby's tend to do that, but since I started bottles, she hasn't been trying to shove her fist down her throat right after her feeding. I feel so bad--while I have been stuffing my face with icecream and oreos and gaining 10 lbs, my poor baby has been frantically eating hand and sucking on her blanket in her crib, wondering to herself what that never-ending pain is inside her tummy! Needless to say, it has been almost a week and she is now a formula baby and my milk is almost gone. I think she has gained a pound in one day!

Way to go MOM...what were you thinking~starving your kid and all!! I can't believe it!! (j/k) It's hard to know what to do as a mother...afterall, she didn't come with a guidebook did she??
I'm sorry, why is nursing such a nightmare? At times it can feel like the most unnatural and stressful part of babies. I feel your pain.

Same story on Benson.
I think I had milk in the beginning . .he gained perfectly. never lost weight in the hospital.
I started training and ran a 1/2 marathon and I came to the conclusion midway training that I was starving him. So we upped his bottles and porked him up again. It was so frustrating. he was nursing longer and longer, I was trying to be patient. Here I go and do something healthy and great for me . . .and it makes me loose my milk and starve my baby.
I feel your sadness and pain. But at the same time. it is soooooo convenient bottle feeding.
your girls are so cute. and so lucky to have a mom that cares.
hey, thanks for adding us! and kacey was the same way... i nursed her on demand, all the time because she was so small. even now (she eats like crazy) and she's in the 10th percentile for her weight. i wish i had that problem :)
